Record crowd gets the credit
Message from the President and CEO
June, 2007
Four thousand fifty-nine members got the credit for registering during the May 12 Annual Meeting. These members received a $25 power bill credit for being present and registering at the 66th Annual Meeting of York Electric Cooperative.
The Annual Meeting is a special occasion for members to participate in cooperative business and meet their cooperative leaders and employees. I personally enjoyed the opportunity to interact with so many of you. The friendly conversations, the chance to hear your ideas and opinions, and the general time of fellowship was very meaningful. On behalf of our Board of Trustees and employees, I want to thank all of you who participated and provided ideas and opinions.
New to this year's event was a barcode scanning process implemented with the intent to minimize your wait in the registration lines. To ensure voting accountability during the election, your cooperative offered instructions and conducted random identification checks. We had the largest member attendance in our history. It was tremendous! Thus, registration and voting took longer than anticipated, and I would like to thank you for the patience you demonstrated during your wait.
The Credentials and Election Committee performed an outstanding job overseeing the registration and election process. This committee recently heard and adopted a recommendation submitted by Joseph H. Wilson, member representing District 9, to improve future Annual Meetings. In 2008, extra registration lines will be added and personal identification will be required and checked for all members. Thank you for helping us make positive changes to next year's event. If you have suggestions for ways we can improve your Annual Meeting, I encourage you to share your ideas with us.
The meeting flourished with a wide array of activities. Bluegrass music filled the air as Appalachian Blue performed. Energy Bingo players learned about energy and won Energy Bucks, which were used to purchase fun items from the energy store. The hungry crowd consumed 7,000 hotdogs and children received free Touchstone Energy bracelets as they registered for the bicycle drawings.
The primary focus of the Annual Meeting, however, was the election for seats on the Cooperative's Board of Trustees.
Charles R. (Dick) Burrell of Clover (District 6) and Roy E. Wilkerson of Hickory Grove (District 7) were elected by the members by acclamation to serve three-year terms. Oscar A. Sadler and Joseph H. Wilson were seeking election to the District 9 seat. Once the votes were counted, Credentials and Election Chairman David Ballard announced that Oscar Sadler was elected to serve a three-year term (District 9). Congratulations are extended to these Board members.
Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our employees for their efforts to make this year's Annual Meeting a successful affair. Your dedication and hard work is to be commended.
