Delegates represent York Electric on Washington trip

June, 2007

Youth TourOnce a year, two high school juniors are selected by York Electric Cooperative to represent our cooperative as delegates to the Washington Youth Tour. Tina Adams and Kasey Stewart were selected as the winners of this year's all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. This month, they traveled with other South Carolina students to the nation's capital the week of June 9–14, where they joined more than 1,500 students from across the country. The tour is a fast-paced, up-close, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see with their own eyes what makes America tick. The nation's electric cooperatives sponsor the one-week event each June.

"We sponsor this tour as part of our commitment to the young people in our service area," said Joyce Baker, Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator of the Cooperative. "We do this to educate high school juniors about American history and government and about the history and business principles of electric cooperatives."

Tina and Kasey were selected from a group of high school juniors who submitted applications and competed through an interview contest. York Electric is proud of our 2007 delegates; Tina and Kasey represented us well during the tour.

During their stay in Washington, the students visited with their representatives and senators and toured sites of historical significance. South Carolina tour participants were also eligible to compete for a college scholarship awarded by the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina.
