Local aid now totals more than $1 million

More than $1 million in aid to local organizations and people in need has now been granted through York Electric Cooperative's Operation Round Up.

To support Operation Round Up, York Electric members voluntarily have their co-op bills raised to the next dollar. The average member contribution is $6 a year, according to Tammie Anderson, chairperson of the volunteer trust board that administers the money. About 58 percent of York Electric's approximately 39,000 members participate in Operation Round Up. The program was initiated in 1999 and made its first grants in 2000, recently topping the $1-million mark.

In addition to needy families and individuals, a few of the non-profit organizations in the community that have received Operation Round Up aid over the years include Carolina Community Actions, Safe Passage, York Place Episcopal Home, the Clover Assistance Center, H.O.P.E., Tender Hearts Ministries and local chapters of American Red Cross.

Visit the Operation Round Up webpage for quarterly grant reports and other information about the program.
