Operation Round Up aids families, non-profit agencies
January, 2009
Thanks a million to our members for rounding up and reaching out through Operation Round Up! A little goes a long way to help our community.
During the fourth quarter of 2008, 21 local families were assisted with approximately $18,000 being donated for rent, mortgage, medical needs, insurance and utility bills. Six local non-profit agencies (A Place for Hope, Inc., The Haven Men's Shelter, Clover Area Assistance Center, Tender Hearts Community Outreach, York County Christian Women's Job Corps and York County Emergency Response Team) received $22,800 to assist individuals with immediate needs and to provide emergency services.
Since 2000, York Electric Cooperative's Operation Round Up program has donated more than $1,200,000 to those in need in the co-op community. It is only through the generosity of York Electric's members, who participate in this outreach program, that we are able to assist in this magnitude. Fifty-seven percent of York Electric's members contribute to Operation Round Up and the goal of the Trust Board is to increase it to 100 percent. By rounding up your electric bill for just pennies a month, you make it possible for us to touch thousands of lives, giving hope and help to those who need it most, right here at home.
The Trust Board meets on a quarterly basis; the next meeting will be held on February 11. The application deadline for this meeting is January 22.
