Not their first rodeo
But great performances make it YEC team's best yet

THEY DIDN'T JUST COME IN FIRST. They came in first, second and third.
York Electric Cooperative's team grabbed several top honors at the 12th annual Santee Cooper Lineworkers' Rodeo recently at Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner. Competing in the apprentice division, co-op team members Nick Adams, John Elliott and Zack Smith placed first, second and third, respectively, in the Apprentice- Fall Arrest Overall category. Tommy Huffstetler, meanwhile, nabbed first place in the Apprentice-Fall Arrest Written Test competition. Other team members include Phil Leake, Brandon Benfield, Jesse Miskelly, Matt Craven, Michael Hill, and Stephen Clinton.
It wasn't their first time at the rodeo, as the saying goes. It was only the second time a YEC team has competed, making this year's showing even more impressive. The co-op's apprentice lineworkers team competed in the annual event two years ago, impressing fellow employees and many others with their teamwork, desire, camaraderie, dedication, and preparation, according to Dennis (Denny) Lynn, the co-op's director of engineering and operations. "The experience gained two years ago went a long way in preparing them for this year's event, and all YEC team members turned in excellent performances.
"This competition attracts top-quality lineworkers from all over our state," Lynn noted. "We're very proud of our fine group of guys. A lot of personal time went into their being ready for this competition."
Lineworkers with South Carolina co-ops and with Santee Cooper, the state-owned utility, compete in the Lineworkers' Rodeo. Santee Cooper, the host of the event, is also the chief power supplier to the state's member-owned cooperatives.
