YEC awards 2 scholarships

Courtney Slocum receives $1,000 scholarship
Local students will benefit from two scholarships awarded recently by York Electric Cooperative. Courtney Slocum has received the co-op's Touchstone Energy Scholarship. To compete for the scholarship, the student must be a high school senior, have average or above-average grades and submit an essay. This year's essay topic required research about Green Power. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina to pursue a major in English and has aspirations to teach secondary education. Courtney is the daughter of Debra and David Slocum and a graduate from Clover High School.
Shaniqua Jamison earns School-to-Work scholarship
York Electric awards an outstanding senior, who has participated in the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center's School-to-Work program, a $500 scholarship.
This year's recipient is Shaniqua Jamison, the daughter of Belinda Mitchell. Shaniqua graduated from York Comprehensive High School and will attend South Carolina State College this fall where she will study business, economics and accounting.
