York Electric Cooperative is taking steps to strengthen its distribution system and improve service reliability for members. In August, Santee Cooper announced $6.9 million in Grid Resilience Grants to fund 14 projects across the state. York Electric was awarded more than $1 million for three projects that will meaningfully improve how we deliver power to you.
Two of the approved projects will support YEC’s ongoing meter change outs, a project set to finish in 2027. By replacing older meters with advanced AMI Sensus meters, members can expect faster outage response times, improved communications between service addresses and YEC’s operations staff and shorter power restoration times. They also provide more accurate energy usage data, allowing your co-op to make informed decisions in system planning.
The third project will improve communication technologies between YEC substations. This equipment will ensure YEC’s distribution system operates as efficiently as possible, allowing it to automatically detect problems down the line and reroute power when an outage occurs. During outage events, less members will be affected for shorter periods of time.
York Electric’s successful grant awards demonstrate your co-op’s ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that benefits members, allowing us to continue providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity to the communities we serve.
