For over 25 years, Oper­a­tion Round Up has giv­en York Elec­tric mem­bers a sim­ple way to make a mean­ing­ful dif­fer­ence in their com­mu­ni­ty. By round­ing up their month­ly elec­tric bills to the next whole dol­lar, par­tic­i­pat­ing mem­bers pro­vide pow­er­ful sup­port for non­prof­it pro­grams, com­mu­ni­ty ser­vices and school ini­tia­tives.

Since the pro­gram began in 2000, Oper­a­tion Round Up has direct­ed more than $4.7 mil­lion back into our com­mu­ni­ty. So far in 2026, the Oper­a­tion Round Up Trust Board has award­ed $170,000 to pro­grams address­ing food inse­cu­ri­ty, afford­able hous­ing, men­tal health, addic­tion recov­ery, fos­ter care and oth­er crit­i­cal needs.

Oper­a­tion Round Up’s impact also goes beyond non­prof­it fund­ing. Mem­bers fund Bright Ideas, our edu­ca­tor grant pro­gram. Appli­ca­tions for the 2026 Bright Ideas pro­gram are open now through Sept. 4. If you would like to hon­or an edu­ca­tor or are a teacher with a bright idea, apply online. Every grant award­ed or class­room sup­port­ed begins with a few cents from mem­bers who choose to give.

A heartfelt thank you

This spring marked a tran­si­tion for the vol­un­teer-led Oper­a­tion Round Up board, as three long­time mem­bers fin­ished their ser­vice. We sin­cere­ly thank Diane How­ell, out­go­ing chair; Wendy Clin­ton, out­go­ing secretary/treasurer; and Nan­cy Low­ery for six years of lead­er­ship and stew­ard­ship of mem­ber-fund­ed dol­lars.
