November 5, 2021YEC Through the Years YEC Through the Years Opened in 2002, YEC's main office at 1385 East Alexander Love Highway accommodates a workforce of approximately 115 employees who serve over 65,000 members. For most of the cooperative's 80-year history, members attended our Annual Meeting in person to vote on our board of trustees and hear about the latest cooperative business. Now, York Electric offers drive-thru registration and voting, and hosts a virtual business meeting to increase participation and convenience for all members. YEC's retired bookkeeper, Deborah Ramsey, helped balance accounts many years ago. To calculate monthly bills, members were responsible for mailing in their meter readings on postcards. Today, we have a billing team of four employees, including Billing Coordinator Shari Propst, who are responsible for sending members' monthly statements. They electronically monitor members' accounts with special software, reading meters from their desks. Our lineworkers have always been on the front line of providing safe, reliable service to our members. Today, our linemen have specialized clothing, tools and equipment, such as wireless drills and bucket trucks, that make line work safer and more efficient. We still train our workers to use their hooks; we'll still climb poles to get the job done in certain situations.
