Incumbent, nominated by petition for District 3
YEC Service Address: 3873 W. McConnells Hwy., Sharon, SC
Family: Wife, Sherry; Children: Will and Brooke
Occupation: Mechanical Master Craftsman for New-Indy (35 years)
Community Involvement: My family and I have always tried to care for others by simply keeping our eyes and ears open for those who might need help in our local communities. I believe helping others who truly need it is one of our main purposes in life.
Three things you should know about the candidate: 1) I am a Christian and a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, PCA. 2) I have been blessed to have a loving family with Christian values, been raised on a farm, and to have lived in Bullock Creek Community all my life. 3) I’m proud to be an American, and I am grateful for the service and sacrifice of all our veterans.
What is the most salient issue faced by YEC and your plan to address it? In my years serving YEC members, I think our main challenges remain the same each year: keeping rates low, keeping employees safe, and making a positive impact in our communities. During my time on the board, we’ve successfully addressed each of these challenges. We are proud to have the lowest rates in SC, with no rate increase in the past 10 years, we helped bring high-speed Internet to the unserved areas within our territory, we’ve nearly tripled the amount of money we give back to members each year, we’ve been recognized as one of the best places to work in SC and have been awarded for our great safety record. We’ve got to continue to adapt as the world changes by listening to the needs and wants of our members. At one time, folks didn’t want air conditioning and now everyone has it. Electric vehicles might follow the same path and YEC needs to be ready.
What does membership mean to you? To me, membership means family. You help others by guiding and directing them towards the best path for the future to the best of your knowledge. YEC is one big family that extends beyond the Board of Trustees and employees to our members. We care about each other, our members, and community.
