Show us your talents by participating in this year’s coloring contest! York Electric is proud to sponsor our 6th annual Linemen Gear Up for Safety Coloring Contest for children who are in the first grade.
Teaching you about electrical safety is important because we want you to stay safe around power lines. It’s another way we are looking out for you–our youngest members. To participate, download the coloring sheet. Learn how our lineworkers stay safe around electricity while showing off your creativity.
Speaking of safety, our Rodeo Team has been hard at work practicing their skills for the event this month. Although friendly competition is fun, being a part of the Rodeo Team is one of the best forms of safety training for our lineworkers here at the co-op. We are proud to have yet another way to incorporate safety in our daily work so that we all go home safe, every day.
The 2019 Rodeo Team will be judging the artwork to award prizes of $100, $50 and $25 for the three best entries. The winners will be invited to come to the co-op for a picture with the lineworkers and a close look at one of our bucket trucks.
All entries should be turned in by Friday, March 6, 2020.
Keeping your lights on is our priority at YEC. That’s why we focus on providing you with the best–the best service at the best price by the best people. I’m a little biased, but our employees are the best at taking care of you. Our members are always first, even in the worst weather conditions. Our dedication to you is no small task. We are proud to say we have safely responded to more than 99 percent of outages in less than an hour and in doing so, won the 2017 safety award for the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina. To work quickly and safely takes skill, focus, discipline and determination. These qualities are found in each of our linemen who work tirelessly to keep your lights on each day. We train for the worst, never taking the hazards of our work for granted. Our linemen are the heartbeat of YEC, and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication.
To celebrate their accomplishments, we join other cooperatives to celebrate National Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18. If you would like to show your support, write to us on social media, #YECLinemenRock, to share your thoughts. You can even get your kids involved! All first-grade students are invited to participate in our annual Linemen Gear Up for Safety Coloring Contest, the deadline for entries is Friday, April 27. Download the coloring sheet and learn more about the first, second and third place winners.
In addition to the hard work from our linemen, I would also like to share a few system upgrades that have decreased outage numbers and improved restoration times. We have:
Although we strive to keep your power on, sometimes outages are out of our control. To help you understand more about why outages occur, what we do to prevent them and our restoration process, check out our videos on social media where linemen share insight about outage situations. Empowering you about electricity not only keeps you safe, but knowledgeable about how your Cooperative is working for you.

YEC employees give back with the gift of life. Together with a few public volunteers, your Cooperative collected 30 units of blood, which is enough to benefit up to 90 people in need. Interested in saving a life? Go to redcrossblood.org to find a drive near you!

In honor of lineman’s appreciation day, York Electric held our 2nd annual Linemen Gear Up for Safety Coloring Contest. Although there were many talented young artists, we could only pick three of the 48 contestants. The 2016 Rodeo Team chose the pictures that stood out to them as the best and most creative.
As an added bonus, we received a special note, shown at the left, from 7-year-old Sarah Pusey. As Sarah says, “Dear linemen, thank you for fixing and building our lines.” After all, you are the reason the lights come on.
To our linemen, we appreciate your dedication and hard work. Here’s to you!
Like many electric cooperatives, York Electric will celebrate National Lineman Appreciation Day on Monday, April 11, to honor the hard-working men and women who often work in challenging conditions to keep the lights on.
We are recognizing all electric linemen for the services they perform around the clock in oftentimes dangerous conditions to keep the power on and protect the public’s safety. The caliber of our line employees is top notch. Each and every member of our line crew is to be commended for his hard work in delivering safe and reliable power to our 58,000-plus members throughout York, Chester, Lancaster and Cherokee counties.
Electric linemen do not often receive the recognition they deserve. They work all hours of the day and night away from their families, and they go above and beyond to restore power to their communities. Our linemen, as well as linemen from all across the nation, truly deserve this special day of recognition.
One way we will honor our linemen is by teaching the next generation of lineworkers how YEC linemen stay safe around electricity. We are proud to sponsor our second annual Linemen Gear Up for Safety Coloring Contest for children, ages 12 and under. We’ll award three prizes of $100, $50, and $25 for the three best entries. Entrants should include their name, their parents’ name, along with their address and phone number.
