NEW: Try CheckOut with PayGo!

YEC’s new program CheckOut by PayGo allows our members to pay their electric bills conveniently at the counter of local retail locations like 7-Eleven, Dollar General, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Family Dollar, and other independent locations displaying the green ice cream cone!

Vanilla Direct PayFor the low cost of $1.50, ask the cashier to scan your PayGo barcode located on the back of your billing statement, tell them how much you’d like to pay, check out with your purchases, and the payment will post to your account immediately.

  1. Get Your Barcode
    Print it, email it to yourself, or save it as a picture on your mobile device.
  2. Find Locations
    Look for the closest participating retailer that can scan your barcode to post a payment.
  3. Scan Barcode at Cashier
    When you are ready to pay your YEC bill, simply have the cashier scan the barcode and tell them how much you want to pay.

What retailers participate in the CheckOut network?

Over 50,000 retailers participate in the network including Walmart, Dollar General, CVS, Walgreens, Speedway, 7-Eleven, and Family Dollar. Use this interactive map to find retailers in your area.

Do some retail locations only accept a printed/physical barcode and others accept digital as well as printed?

The acceptance method is specified on the map of CheckOut retailers. The current retailers participating in the program accept both paper and digital, but it is possible for an individual retailer or even a new retailer to have legacy scanning equipment that can only accept printed barcodes. In this case, members would need to provide a printed copy.

Can a CheckOut Payment be refunded?

At the time of the transaction, the retailer can cancel a payment prior to a receipt being generated. If a member requires a refund after the payment has been made, he or she will need to contact York Electric Cooperative.

Will the retailer be able to tell the YEC members how much they own?

No. The retailer does not have access to the balance information. The member is required to tell the cashier at the retailer how much they want to pay.

Can a member make a payment on different member’s account with the same barcode?

No. While the member has the ability to make multiple payments across member account numbers, they must have downloaded or printed the barcode for each of the individual accounts they wish to pay.

How much does CheckOut application cost to use?

How does the CheckOut application work?

First, the YEC member obtains their unique barcode. The member can visit any participating local retailer to pay their bill. The cashier at the retailer scans the member’s barcode and accepts their payment. The member’s payment is posted in real-time to his or her account.

Free yourself from monthly payments

What is Advance Pay? Advance Pay is a pre-pay plan that lets you pay when you want, in the amounts you want. Instead of receiving a paper bill each month, energy use is calculated daily. Advance Pay members never pay a late charge, disconnect fees or reconnect fees.

Would you like to:

  • Eliminate deposits and monthly bills?
  • Customize a payment schedule?
  • Buy power at your convenience?
  • Monitor your energy use?

If so, York Electric’s Advance Pay plan may be for you!

Is Advance Pay right for me? Would it be easier for you to make weekly or biweekly payments rather than one large payment each month? If so, Advance Pay might be for you! Members interested in monitoring and lowering electricity use could benefit, too.

What if my Advance Pay account runs low? You can set up notifications by e-mail or text to notify you of a low balance, allowing time to buy power. If you do not purchase more, the meter will stop until funds are applied to your account.

Making a payment is easy, even on weekends and holidays! Once payment is received, your power will reconnect almost immediately.

How do I make payments? Set up a payment profile through our free YEC Mobile App and then pay by:

  • Texting: Text JOIN to 352667, then follow the instructions to pay.
  • YEC App: Pay through our free YEC Mobile App.
  • Online: At yorkelectric.net.
  • By phone: Call (866) 374-1234.

Advance Pay: A new flexible payment plan is now available for YEC members

All members are not alike, and some members want or need the flexibility when purchasing their power. That’s why your co-op is now offering Advance Pay–an innovative bill payment program designed to meet your needs–and your individual lifestyle.

For members looking to pay for power as they use it, Advance Pay puts you in charge of your electric bill. Advance Pay gives you the power to purchase electricity when you want, weekly or biweekly, in the amounts you choose rather than one monthly payment, allowing you to monitor and control your electric usage daily, weekly, monthly with a select payment plan that works for you and your budget.

How does Advance Pay work?

When you sign up for Advance Pay, you deposit money into your account, similar to a prepaid cellular phone, and as you use electricity, the cost is deducted on a daily basis. You will have a number of ways to access and monitor your account at any time. This enables you to chart your own usage so you can better understand how you are using electricity. This is a helpful way to make your money go further. In fact, monitoring power usage typically reduces consumption on an average of 10 percent. And, there is no security deposit, late charge, disconnect or reconnect fee with Advance Pay.

When you set up your Advance Pay account, you will choose the balance at which you will begin to receive low-balance notifications via a method you choose:

  • text message
  • e-mail
  • automated calling service

This will give you time to purchase more power before the meter stops.

Advance Pay also helps you help the environment by ending paper billings and costs associated with mailing.

If funds in your account run out, your meter will stop, the power will be automatically disconnected, and you will be notified. However, once your outstanding balance and minimum payment is made, even on weekends and holidays, your service will be reconnected in minutes.

If you are already a YEC member currently on a regular residential rate, you can switch to an Advance Pay account. Any existing security deposit will be credited to your account balance. If you decide that Advance Pay is not for you, we’ll switch you back to a traditional account with an applicable security deposit.

Advance Pay teaches the value of electricity and what uses energy in your home. It also provides absolute control over how much you pay and helps you reduce your energy use. However, participation in Advance Pay is limited to qualified accounts, and the rate is slightly higher than YEC’s traditional rate.

You may make payments, check your account balance, sign up for alerts and reminders, and monitor your energy use through the Member Services Portal.
