York Electric wins 2024 ECSC’s President’s Safety Award

May is Elec­tri­cal Safe­ty Month, so it is time­ly that your co-op just cel­e­brat­ed win­ning the Elec­tric Coop­er­a­tives of South Car­oli­na (ECSC) 2024 Pres­i­den­t’s Safe­ty Award. We are proud to be rec­og­nized for our cul­ture of safe­ty here at YEC, but more than any­thing else, we see win­ning this annu­al con­test as a tes­ta­ment to our con­tin­ued pri­or­i­ti­za­tion of send­ing each employ­ee home the same way they came in to work each day.

It comes as no sur­prise that we have many haz­ards in our day-to-day job. Approach­ing each task with a clear under­stand­ing of what chal­lenges may occur and what dan­gers to watch out for, and remind­ing our­selves that we are our broth­ers’ keep­ers, helps us reach our goal of stay­ing safe.

Clear com­mu­ni­ca­tion, fol­low-ups, train­ing and thought­ful process­es are just some of the ways we put safe­ty and each oth­er first. Each job, whether we are dri­ving across our ter­ri­to­ry, climb­ing a pole, unload­ing a truck or work­ing from a buck­et, comes with the respon­si­bil­i­ty of assess­ing and avoid­ing dan­ger­ous sit­u­a­tions. If we see some­thing, we say some­thing. This pos­i­tive sup­port not only helps pre­vent acci­dents, but it also helps pass sav­ings on to mem­bers by avoid­ing the costs asso­ci­at­ed with inci­dents.

Your co-op is always look­ing out for you, and we encour­age you to think about safe­ty in your own life. Ask your­self how you can learn more, what con­ver­sa­tions you can have to encour­age safe­ty in your fam­i­ly and where your pri­or­i­ties are each day. It isn’t just impor­tant that we go home safe every day, but that our mem­bers do as well.
