The Burrell Foundation
The Burrell Foundation works to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families living within York Electric Cooperative’s service territory, including York, Chester, Cherokee, and Lancaster Counties. Established in memory of Mr. Dick Burrell, a former trustee of York Electric Cooperative, the Foundation honors his legacy of compassion, generosity, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Guided by its mission, the Burrell Foundation empowers York Electric employees to respond to the needs of our neighbors, enriches the lives of students and families through meaningful community partnerships, and builds long-term stability by addressing the unique challenges facing our communities.

Working alongside York Electric Cooperative employees, The Burrell Foundation’s board of directors and executive director raise funds from our community and surrounding areas to provide charitable support where it is needed most. Every contribution is thoughtfully directed with one central goal in mind: to do what is best for the people and families we serve and to strengthen the communities we are proud to call home.

The Burrell Foundation's Beginning

Dick Burrell first joined YEC’s board of directors in 1998. He was elected chairman in May 2011 and remained in that office until his death. He was a great leader and truly loved YEC and every employee. He tirelessly looked after our membership, whether in the board room, on the phone with a member, or representing us around the state – earning him a reputation of integrity, selflessness, thoroughness and genuine caring for what was best for everyone. It is our privilege to carry out the works of The Burrell Foundation in his name.

These funds allow district staff members to respond quickly to essential needs, such as transportation, clothing, school supplies, meals, and emergency assistance.
