Our memÂbers are always the guests of honÂor at any AnnuÂal MeetÂing, and we realÂly appreÂciÂate the 2,967 who were regÂisÂtered in attenÂdance at this year’s event May 9. Along with hunÂdreds of othÂer guests, they made it a speÂcial day indeed.
We took time to recÂogÂnize a dear memÂber who was soreÂly missed—the late Charles R. (Dick) BurÂrell, who served on York ElecÂtric CoopÂerÂaÂtive’s Board of Trustees from 1998 until his untimeÂly passÂing earÂliÂer this year. I was pleased to present his widÂow, Jane BarÂrett BurÂrell, with a framed board resÂoÂluÂtion (above) in appreÂciÂaÂtion of his serÂvice to his felÂlow YEC memÂbers, includÂing almost four years as our chairÂman. We were pleased that many of Mr. DickÂ’s famÂiÂly memÂbers also could be present.
AnothÂer speÂcial recogÂniÂtion was made for the co-op’s attorÂney, Melvin B. McKÂeÂown, who has givÂen York ElecÂtric CoopÂerÂaÂtive an incredÂiÂble 50 years of serÂvice. Mr. Melvin jokes that he startÂed pracÂticÂing law when he was 10 years old, but, on a seriÂous note, I know that we could not have asked for wisÂer counÂsel. We’re going to miss him, but Mr. Melvin (left) promisÂes we can call him back any time we need him.

FinalÂly, two points I made in my report with unreÂserved pleaÂsure are worth repeatÂing here: I thanked our employÂees for best-in-the-nation cusÂtomer serÂvice ratÂing and our board for helpÂing us hold YEC’s elecÂtric rates down: Ours remain the lowÂest rates of any co-op in the state. We’ll conÂtinÂue to proÂtect your pockÂetÂbook in 2015 and beyond.
We hope to see you next spring at our 75th AnnuÂal Meeting—if not soonÂer!
