York Electric continues to strengthen and expand its system to serve members and our growing community, even as the cost of materials and equipment continues to rise. As a cooperative, we’re obligated to serve, and these investments ensure your co-op can meet increasing demand while keeping reliability strong.
Following is an update on ongoing projects:
- Fort Mill’s Springmaid Substation is nearing completion and will be energized this fall, supported by new overhead and underground lines to feed four circuits. The substation’s design allows for faster restoration times during outages.
- Construction of the Banks Street substation is also underway. Crews are building additional circuits to serve expanding communities, accommodate growth in Lancaster County and to create redundancy and remove load from our North Lancaster substation.
- In Lancaster County’s Kinsdale subdivision, we’re upgrading overhead line to a larger conductor, or wire, set to serve these new homes. We’re preparing to bury main lines to the homes in the coming months.
- Our crews coordinated with SCDOT to relocate underground utilities along Highway 160 and overhead services along Highway 21. Contractor crews finished pole replacements, and YEC crews completed backlot burial projects in neighborhoods across our service territory with tight subdivisions, backyards and heavily wooded areas.
- System-wide improvements are being made by sectionalizing areas of our distribution lines so that we can restore more members faster in outage situations. This year we focused on our Biggers Branch Substation serving parts of western York County.
- Clover will be opening a new Lake Wylie High School that your co-op is proud to serve. Work continues to install the necessary equipment to serve the school as it prepares to welcome students.
