Since our founding, York Electric Cooperative has upheld a simple promise: to provide electricity that is safe, reliable and affordable. That mission remains the same, even as our communities rapidly develop. If you’ve driven around our service territory lately, you’ve seen it firsthand. New neighborhoods, schools and businesses are appearing every day. That growth means more members to serve, and greater energy demands to meet.
Across South Carolina, electricity demand is rising faster than ever before. Meeting that demand, without lessening affordability or reliability, requires wise policy decisions and long-term planning. That’s why the recent passage of the South Carolina Energy Security Act (H. 3309) is so important.
This legislation is a meaningful step forward for our state. It opens the door for new power generation, streamlines regulatory processes and strengthens long-term planning for grid reliability. In short, it lays the groundwork to help ensure our state has the energy infrastructure it needs for its future.
Even still, the work isn’t finished. Building and maintaining energy infrastructure takes time, coordination and cooperation between every part of the energy sector. Progress like this doesn’t happen without the cooperation of utilities, lawmakers, regulators and you, our members. Going forward, we must continue to build on this momentum.
At York Electric, we’ll keep doing our part. We’re continuing to invest in the people and equipment that keep your service affordable and reliable, and we’re committed to voicing your concerns and values within policy discussions at all levels of government.
Transparency and trust are central to who we are as a cooperative, and we believe good communication is key to high-quality service. Through it all, we’ll keep you informed.
While challenges will no doubt arise, so will opportunities for growth. We remain committed to the promise we made long ago: to make life better for our members.
