YEC plans for growth

Work on the Banks Street Substation will continue in 2026 to increase reliability in the Fort Mill area.

Preparation for growth and service reliability are top priorities as your co-op strategically plans how to invest time and money for members. As we look ahead for 2026, members can expect new large power users, updated technology and overall system improvements.

New substations

Your co-op continues to experience growth in the Fort Mill area of its service territory. Completing two new substations not only helps to create greater capacity to serve members, but it also provides a way to reroute service in an outage situation. Creating redundancy in our distribution system strengthens our grid and service reliability for you.

The new Springmaid Substation is now online. Work will continue in 2026 to adjust the service for members located north of Highway 160, near Coltharp Road, Kingsley and Carolina Place to this substation.

The Banks Street substation will serve residential members located in Masons Bend, Elizabeth, Waterside and Massey subdivisions, along with Catawba Ridge High School and some industrial members.

Building reliability

Legion Road in the Smyrna and Hickory Grove areas of Western York County is served by a long, radial line. Currently, this area is subject to lengthy outage times because there are no options to redirect services in an outage situation while repairs are made. This year, York Electric will build a new section of line to provide another path to our system in this area, which will help the co-op sectionalize areas along the distribution line to restore services faster in an outage.

Where we’re trimming

Utility workers using bucket trucks to maintain power lines along a forested road. Clear skies and tall trees surround the area.
Improving reliability takes time, teamwork and a lot of boots on the ground. This year-round work keeps our system strong, and our members cared for as we begin another year.

Keeping a maintained right-of-way is one of the most important preventative maintenance actions we take at your co-op to keep your service safe and your lights on.

Our right-of-way trimming schedule for the first quarter of 2026 includes Park Place and Tirzah substations.

These general areas include Turkey Farm Road, Park Place Road, Gordon Road, Hwy. 5, Billy Wilson Road, Shiloh Road, Osteen Road and Derby Downs subdivision.
