Scholarship programs help local students pursue higher education

As the new year begins, and the secÂond half of the 2025–2026 school year gets underÂway, high school seniors are adding the finÂishÂing touchÂes on their colÂlege appliÂcaÂtions and awaitÂing accepÂtance letÂters.
AlongÂside these sigÂnifÂiÂcant deciÂsions comes a pressÂing quesÂtion: How will I pay for my eduÂcaÂtion? From tuition and camÂpus housÂing to meal plans and textÂbooks, the expensÂes add up quickÂly, and for many famÂiÂlies, the cost can be a barÂriÂer.
AccordÂing to recent fedÂerÂal data, South CarÂoliÂna stuÂdents purÂsuÂing highÂer eduÂcaÂtion borÂrowed an averÂage of $35,000 to $40,000 in 2025.
